Apps for web design.
Before getting started building your blog or website its a good idea to have a small collection of useful applications on your computer. First and foremost, STOP using windows Internet explorer! This is probably the worst web browser available at present and although you want to build your site to be compatible with Internet explorer it certainly won’t do your site any justice when it come to viewing it, there is many elements explorer just can’t handle especially when it comes to Css 3.
It’s generally excepted that FireFox is about the best around at the moment with Google Chrome coming in a close second! This doesn’t mean get rid of Internet explorer which is near on impossible to do anyway, and please don’t attempted it as it can totally screw up your operating system, just put it to one side and use it to check your sites visibility on it!
So why is FireFox so good? Well its much faster for one thing and if you tweak it up it can run rings around the others, If you want to check this do the following:
Open FireFox and type “about:config” into the address bar (no quotes)
To spead up the browser: -set “network.http.pipelining” to “true” -set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true” and then – Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to a number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
– Right click and select New->Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set the value to “0”. This is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.
– Right click and select New->Boolean. Name it “browser.turbo.enabled” and set
the value to “true”
To stop Pop-Ups from sneaking through plug-ins:
– Right click and select New->Integer. Name it “privacy.popups.disable_from_plugins” and set the value to “2”
The speed is one thing and then there are the add ons you can get, try Firebug and web developer, these are two great little add ons that give you the ability to inspect and edit in real time certain elements of yours or anyone elses website, of course any changes you make are not permanent but it gives you a chance to edit and copy and paste into your custom files if you need to.
To be able to do that it’s highly advisable to use a PTF program and one of the better free ones around at the moment is File Zilla If your using the Thesis theme for wordpress and you errrm mess up your custom_functions.php file your really going to be pleased to have a good PTF program.
