Change the custom-sample folder to custom, in Thesis

Thesis custom folder.

Congratulations!!! If you’re reading this article then you have just got yourself one of the best web design frameworks on the market, so you downloaded it unziped it, installed it into word press and now its telling you you have to change the custom-sample folder to “custom” Welcome to the world of sleepless nights, cold sweats and sudden hair loss! :) Just kidding, although there are a few things that if you learn as soon as you get thesis out of the box, you may avoid those cold sweats!

So to change the custom-sample folder to custom is an easy fix, you need to head over to your FTP program click on public_html, this is the root directory of your site and were you need to put your sitemap.xml and robots.txt files if you haven’t already done that, next click on WordPress content, then on themes, select Thesis, what ever version of it you’re using, at the time of writing this post it’s version 184, so open up that file and you should see two files one says custom-sample and the other says “lib” ok so you’ve found the file now all you have to do is right click on the custom-sample file and rename it to custom.

Follow this path.

Really it’s as simple as that. Now head on back to your wordpress dashboard, select Thesis and site options  and the scary message should have gone. Now you can have that sleepless night playing with your new theme, I’d suggest playing around with the settings in Thesis site options and design options before you start messing with the custom file editor. As the topic of my next post is going to be “What to do when you break the custom_funtions.php file”, something that will cause you great anguish :) yes the white page of syntax error hell, this really will make you loose hair, so I highly recommend reading the next post and learning how to fix it right from the start. Enjoy your new theme and welcome to the thesis club.

    Hi Sophia,
WordPress has the option of using WYSIWYG or HTML editors it your choice and very easy to switch.

Whats up this is somewhat of off topic but I was wondering if blogs use WYSIWYG editors or if you have to manually code with HTML. I’m starting a blog soon but have no coding experience so I wanted to get guidance from someone with experience. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Wonderful blog! I found it while searching on Yahoo News. Do you have any tips on how to get listed in Yahoo News? I’ve been trying for a while but I never seem to get there! Appreciate it
